Mechanical Integrity

Mechanical Integrity is one of the 14 elements of Process Safety Management (PSM) as outlined by the OSHA 1910.119 standard. It encompasses all equipment and assets involved in producing products made from hazardous materials specified in the PSM standard. A robust Mechanical Integrity program is crucial for ensuring the safety and reliability of assets in oil and gas and chemical facilities. This involves ensuring that equipment is fabricated correctly, professionally installed, maintained, and replaced to prevent failures and accidental releases.

Mechanical Integrity includes all equipment and assets used in the production of hazardous materials, such as:

Pressure vessels

Storage tanks

Piping systems (including components like valves and fittings)

Pressure relief devices

Emergency shutdown systems

Rotating equipment and assets, such as pumps, blowers, fans, and compressors
